Drummer/ Percussionist/Production
Having an ear for music, Darin is very good at taking pieces of ideas and making a complete picture out of them. He loves to work with artists and develop new ideas and concepts. Music has taken Darin around the world and constantly gives him new experiences and ways to let people hear and feel where he’s coming from.
Using all the technology and music skills developed over the years,
Darin started the Gospel Record Label
Victorian Records with his father
Rev. T.L. James. Darin produced two CDs on the label called
"Trouble Don’t Last" and
"My Living Testimony". Darin has recorded with and/or played for such artists as
Lynn White, Ann Pebbles (
I Can’t Stand The Rain), Willie Mitchell, The Memphis Horns,
Michael McDonald,
Otis Clay,
Jay Blackfoot,
The late Luther Allison, and
The Barkays. These recordings where done at
Memphis Sound Recording, Print City recording, Hi and Powerhouse Recording Studios.
Moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997,
Darin began working as a engineer at
A Cut Above Recording Studio. He got a lot of experience working on analog and digital consoles such as the
Harrison, SSL, MCI, O2R, Soundcraft, Mackie, Tascam, and Alesis. Also working with computer programs
Nuendo and Protools.
Darin has produced for such Music City acts like
Grammy Award winning
Shannon Sanders, Take 6, Kim Barrell, and
Grammy and Stellar Award winning
Sanchez Harley (
Kirk Franklin).
Darin has performed in many different venues and recording studios, with an array of Secular, R &B, Pop, Country, Gospel, and Jazz Artists. Darin received the Blues Drummer of the Year for 2003 and 2004. His tools of trade are the MPC 2000, Istanbul Cymbals, Taye Drums and Hardware, Glyp Hard Drive, Hanzenfutz Practice Pedals, which he is currently endorsed by. Darin is currently playing for Blues Award winning Stacy Mitchhart and Blues -U- Can- Use.
